The gay travel mecca of key west

Lesbian women looking for gay travel destinations need look no further than the beach paradise of Key West, Florida. This is a hotspot for adventure travel for women, lesbian accommodations, and gay friendly restaurants and bars. Young couples, lesbian older women and women traveling alone will all enjoy the Florida resort city.

Beginning a Key West lesbian vacation should begin with a tour of the city's historic gay and lesbian sites. The Historic Gay Trolley offers a guided tour of Key West's gay and lesbian landmarks. The tour guide also highlights the contributions and history of the gay men and lesbian women who have long called this beach paradise home.

Key West has the oldest gay and lesbian chamber of commerce association, the Key West Business Guild, which created the tour. It is the only gay trolley tour in the United States, according to spokesman Steve Smith. This unique feature alone attracts many lesbian women and gay men. The city itself is very bohemian and gay-friendly, as the tour reveals.

Lesbian women who love the arts will also find Key West to be the ultimate gay travel destination. The Key West Art Gallery Association estimates that the beach paradise is home to more visual artists and galleries per capita than any other city in the United States. Lesbian women in search of an artistic experience can find oils and watercolors, sculpture, Haitian primitives, collage, photography, pottery, woodcarvings, art glass, prints, metalwork, acrylics and fine crafts.

Many Key West women have chosen to stay here for the gay-friendly vibe. Commitment ceremonies for gay men and lesbian women are performed almost every day in Key West. The resort beach city was also the first city in Florida to officially recognize same-sex domestic partnerships.

The lesbian lodging isn't the only reason for young women to travel here. Key West also licenses same-sex marriages, though they may not be recognized by state or federal governments outside the city. Young lesbian couples who want this formal union can have the ceremony performed by the secretary general of the Conch Republic, which is another name for Key West.

Key West has Caribbean beaches with pleasant weather year-round, unlike many other lesbian resort vacations. This is the ultimate gay travel city for beach bunnies. There events and celebrations year-round as well, and many are geared specifically toward gay men and lesbian women. These include the "PrideFest Key West" each June and WomenFest each September.

PrideFest features a parade, street fair, variety show and parties. The gay-friendly event also usually honors AIDS victims with a tribute at the Key West AIDS Memorial, which was the first municipally sponsored AIDS memorial in the United States. WomenFest draws thousands of lesbian women to the beach paradise for a week of dinners, cocktail galas, comedy and musical performances, water sports and all varieties of women only travel fun.

There are many gay and lesbian accommodations for gay travel during these festive weeks. Key West is the ultimate luxury resort destination for gay women because of the unusual bohemian vibe in the city, as well as the beautiful beaches and beautiful Key West women.
