A Visit To Key West National Park Hc

Key West is one of the most popular vacation destinations. It is not surprising. Key West has several attractions including a thriving marine life and several museums.

Key West is a city and an island of the same name at the southernmost tip of the Florida Keys in Monroe County, Florida, United States. It is the southernmost city in continental United States.

A key attraction near Key West is the Dry Tortugas National Park. This park is located about 109 kilometers west of Key West in the Gulf of Mexico.

A few thousand visitors come to the park every year for its abundant sea life, colorful coral reefs and legends of shipwrecks and sunken treasures.

The park's centerpiece is Fort Jefferson, a massive but unfinished coastal fortress. It is the largest masonry structure in the Western Hemisphere, and is composed of over 16 million bricks. More than 80,000 visitors travel by boat from Key West to the Dry Tortugas National Park every year. The park is accessible only from Key West by seaplane and boat. Most visitors to the park come for the snorkeling, picnicking, scuba diving, salt water fishing and bird watching. Most visitors to Key West come to the national park to bird watch several species of bird including noddy, brown pelican, magnificent frigate bird, masked booby, roseate tern, brown booby and double-crested cormorant.

Another reason for visiting the national park while vacationing in Key West is Fort Jefferson. This fort is a three-tiered six-sided 420 heavy-gun fort, with two sides measuring 325 feet, and four sides measuring 477 feet.

For those Key West vacationers who like history and museums but are not really interested in taking the boat or seaplane ride across to the park, there are several attractions in Key West. There are several historical forts and parks for history enthusiasts to admire in Key West. From the 19th century Fort Zachary Taylor to the gardens at West Martello Towers, there is something for everyone who visits the city. Of course, for all vacationers in Key West there are beaches.

Most of the beaches in Key West are on the south side. Visitors will want to try them all from the busy Smathers beach with its volleyball games to the quieter beach at Fort Zachary. Then there is fishing. No vacationer to Key West probably leaves without trying a hand at fishing. There are several private and party boats that can give vacationers a great deep sea fishing experience. Flats Fishing is extremely popular and backcountry guides abound.
