Gay Friendly Boston
Both New York and San Francisco may be progressive cities that have a number of friendly restaurants and lesbian accommodations. But Boston is one of the most open communities for gay and lesbian people. Massachusetts is the only state in the United States that allows same-sex marriages. This is a huge boon to young couples. The state proved its open spirit once again when gay advocates defended gay marriages from a constitutional amendment. Now, lesbian women in Massachusetts are gearing up for a new fight. Fresh from the success of defending gay marriage from its latest attack, lesbian woman advocates say they have one more fight in Massachusetts: repealing a 1913 law that bars same-sex couples in most other states from coming here to get married. The law in Massachusetts prevents young couples from other states coming to Boston to legalize their weddings. This law has its roots in the effort to block interracial marriage, and the plan is to get it repealed. If the is law repealed, gay young couples from other states could legally marry in Massachusetts. The possible impact on other states is unknown. Most states prohibit gay marriage, but a Massachusetts certificate could provide the foundation for legal challenges. Boston is one of the most gay friendly cities in the nation. It has several restaurants and accommodations that are supportive of the gay and lesbian community. In fact, the city has more than a dozen lesbian older women hotel accommodations.
Apart from changes in law, some churches are also beginning to embrace gay women. In fact, some churches believe that current readings of the Bible are flawed as they believe homosexuality to be a sin. These churches say that some passages in the Bible itself refer to gay women. These churches say that the Old Testament phrase "Wherever you go, I will go; wherever you live, I will live," actually refers to a committed same-sex relationship. Members of the gay and lesbian community who plan to visit different cities should definitely include cities in Massachusetts in their itinerary. Apart from Boston several other cities in the State also have extremely gay-friendly bars as well as several lesbian accommodations.
