Key West Activities

A trip to the Florida Keys is only complete if you visit Key West. Even though it is a tiny island, it holds most of the history behind the Keys. The principle adopted by the people here is unity in diversity, which is clearly seen when you walk down the street. Here, the cultural influence of the neighboring islands like Cuba and the Bahamas is palpable. There is a huge gay and lesbian population in Key West mainly due to the easygoing attitude of the people here. In fact, Key West is one of the top U.S. destinations for Gay travel and lesbian travel.

Key West is a part of the Lower Keys and is known as the southernmost city in Florida. More commonly known as the Conch Republic, it is a seaport and a favorite tourist destination too. The climatic conditions are mild and resemble the Caribbean islands, making the island an automatic choice for lesbian paradise vacations.

The island of Key West is home to many beaches, parks, and resorts. The list of attractions in this Caribbean lesbian paradise runs long. You can hardly miss any place in Key West, as the island is a small one.

There are historical buildings such as the Old City Hall and Wrecker's Museum, Old Customs House and Shipwreck Historeum as well as historical learning buildings like the Ernest Hemingway museum. In fact, Key West - once the wealthiest city in America - has one of the largest historic woodframe architectural districts in the country, making it a favorite for travelers interested in culture and history.

Fishing, diving, dolphin-watching, jet-skiing and kayaking are great adventure activities in the Keys warm tropical waters. The only coral reef in North America lies just off Key West's shore. There is also a public 200-acre 18-hole golf course. For those who love the arts, the Tennessee Williams theatre stages live performances of dance, concerts, and plays. Tropic Cinema in downtown Key West features the latest in art film, and the Red Barn and Waterfront Theatres present live theatre regularly.

All of these things are fun to do and visit, but the reason most people come to Key West is for fun in the sun. So don't feel obligated to fit tons of activities into your itinerary, just lay by the water - near the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic Ocean or the pool at your guesthouse - and be a true Key West woman.
