Key West Known For Being Gay Resort Town
There are plenty of reasons for gay women to vacation in Key West, Florida. The town has an abundance of lesbian resort accommodations, for starters, most of which are smaller and more intimate. There is also a wide variety of lesbian and gay events in the summertime and fall. Key West is a perfect getaway for gay women and men any time of the year, though, with nightlife revolving around a handful of friendly venues on or off Duval Street, near the ocean.
Many of the lesbian resort accommodations in Key West are old converted mansions, cigar factories or wooden cottages, like the quaint Pearl's Rainbow. There are accommodations for gay men, as well, like the Island House. There is also a beach at Fort Zachary especially for lesbian women and gay men, and a number of gay friendly restaurants and bars within walking distance of any of the local resorts.
There is even an extravaganza meant especially for gay women every September, called WomenFest, which typically attracts about 5,000 lesbians, as well as their friends and families. This lesbian festival is a weeklong event full of parties, cultural events and good loving. Fantasy Fest is probably the most popular event for gay women and men in Key West, though, which is a 10 day party in late October. This festival is open to all people, gay or straight, but it tends to attract a lot of gays and lesbians, since this is commonly known as a gay and lesbian resort destination.
