Travel Tips For Women

Traveling, especially air travel, could be daunting these days with the fear of terrorism. For many women travel concerns include sexual verbal harassment, physical assault such as unwanted touching, inappropriate comments and groping.

There are some travel tips women in travel could use to protect themselves. Single women in travel should avoid dark and deserted streets after dark. If women in travel need to pass through streets that have poor lighting they should carry a flashlight in their hand. Women in travel could also buy some pepper spray or mace at any convenience store of the city that they are visiting.

Women in travel should also be aware of their surroundings and take good care of their belongings, especially their purses and handbags. Women should not let down their defenses in crowded places by assuming that they will not be thieved or groped in these places. There are some thieves who prefer crowded place and single woman in travel should be weary of such people.

Women in travel should avoid ostentatious jewelry. Large and shiny chains and expensive watches just serve to attract the attention of thieves. Women in travel could also get injured if a thief yanks a bracelet from the wrist or a necklace from the throat.

Women in travel should try and dress like the locals. Short skirts are considered offensive in some countries and women in travel who dress in these skirts stand a high chance of being teased and harassed. If women in travel find that the clothing that they packed for their trip is not appropriate to the destination than they should go out and buy new clothes that are more conforming to the taste of the local people.

Women in travel should always leave behind a detailed copy of their itinerary with either a family member or a friend.  The itinerary should provide contact numbers of all the hotels that you will stay in.

Women in travel should try and avoid traveling with much jewelry or valuables. Women in travel should also avoid taking extra credit cards with them on the trip. This will minimize the risk of theft.
