Unique History Of A Key West Private Resort
Although it is now used for B&B lodging, the Pearl's Rainbow was not originally intended to be an inn. The private resort was actually built to be a cigar factory at the end of the 19th century. Women who come to stay in this Florida lodging can still enjoy some of the original architecture from the building's roots, though, with tobacco-sorter's bay windows inspired by the structural design of the old Key West cigar factories. Although the style of these bay windows was once common, the private resort is now the only building in Key West that features them.
Pearl's Rainbow hasn't been used as a cigar factory in a long time, though; once the cigar industry left Key West it became B&B lodging where even Hemmingway is been rumored to have slept. The Florida lodging house has been predominantly run by women since the cigar factory closed, and it has been used as B&B lodging strictly for women since 1989.
The private resort became Pearl's Rainbow in 2000, and has been catering to lesbian women and their female friends ever since. Many of the B&B lodging houses have been converted from cigar factory worker's houses, and they still retain much of the historic feel. Women can enjoy any one of the buildings that make up Pearl's Rainbow when they visit this Florida lodging place, which are among the largest guesthouses in Key West, and still reflect the island's unique history.
