A number of cities around the world are now promoting themselves as "gay-friendly" cities.

 

Gay-friendly cities are usually cities that boast of a significantly high gay and lesbian population and had an array of gay resources and attractions. 

 

The leading gay friendly cities include Amsterdam, which has a self-titled nickname "the gay way or Europe" and Germany, which opened its doors to gay and lesbian community before many other American and European cities.

 

In the United States as well there are a number of gay-friendly cities such as New York and San Francisco. San Francisco has several gay-friendly resources such as gay resorts and restaurants, an open and active gay and lesbian community and probably the best gay parade in the United States.

 

There are more cities and regions around the world that are becoming gay-friendly. The latest to join the list of gay-friendly region is Asia and the parts of the Caribbean Vacation. Surprising as it may seem, many Caribbean Vacationcities have been openly hostile to the gay and lesbian community. However, these favorite destination spots for spring breakers and most "straight" vacationers are beginning to change.

 

A few Caribbean cities such as Jamaica, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago are beginning to open up to the gay and lesbian community by becoming more gay-friendly. More resorts in these areas are removing restrictions on allowing the gay and lesbian community to stay at their resorts. Mayors in some of these cities are also thinking of challenging the Victorian legislation that criminalizes homosexuality. More and more gay-friendly cruises are being operated to these regions as well.

 

Another region that is becoming gay-friendly is Hong Kong. The city has opened its doors to the gay and lesbian community only over the past few years. Saunas and steam baths in this gay-friendly city are now very popular.

 

Some of the gay-friendly cities setting the pace include Osaka in Japan and Valencia in Spain. Both these cities have several gay-friendly restaurants and resorts. In addition, a lot of gay cruises and tours are operated in this region.

 

Members of the gay community should probably check to see if the city that they are planning to visit or vacation is gay-friendly. This would prevent them from having an unpleasant trip.
