Visiting Gay Cities Outside San Francisco
San Francisco is one the most gay-friendly cities in the United States and entices young couples with a surprising array of affordable quality lodging. Beside the chain hotels, the city offers several decent options for under $100 a night are available to young couples. A lot of the bed and breakfast accommodations are run by gay and lesbian people. However, for gay women there are several more cities to visit than San Francisco or even Boston. There are several less glamorous cities that are as gay friendly and have several restaurants and friendly bars. Columbus is one of the smaller cities that is not high on every tourist's gay radar but which has a surprisingly large gay and lesbian population. A lot of lesbian older women love the city because of its lively downtown and neighborhoods. Food and restaurants are another great attraction to the city. A lot of young couples love the city for the restaurants. In fact, Columbus has one of the highest culinary reputations in all of the Mid-West. Providence in Rhode Island is another great city where a lot of gay young couples choose to settle down. Its high ranking private schools such as Brown, Rhode Island School of Design, and Johnson & Wales bring in a steady stream of gay students and academics. In addition a lot of young couples choose to live in Providence because same sex marriages are recognized in the city. Most couples drive 45 minutes from Providence to Boston to get married. However, the wedding is recognized once they come back to Providence. Detroit, which is one of America's largest cities, has a sizeable gay and lesbian population. It has a number of gay-friendly bars as well as bed and breakfast accommodations only for women. Most of the lesbian mature women of Detroit live and play in the nearby towns of Ferndale and Royal Oak. New Haven is becoming one of the most liberal cities in the United States and young couples living there are reaping the benefits of the new openness. It's the most liberal city in a state that recently legalized same-sex civil unions, and gays make up a big chunk of the social fabric here. Lesbian mature women love the top-notch plays and musicals at the city's three highly respected performing arts venues. Salt Lake City in Utah is another city that is coming up high on the gay radar. Young couples enjoy renowned institutions as the Kimbell Art Museum, Amon Carter Museum, Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, and Bass Performance Hall. Of course, it has a number of friendly bars.
